Teaching Philosophy

In my role as a dance educator, my teaching philosophy centers around creating an inclusive and supportive environment that fosters personal growth, development, creativity, and versatility for my students. I believe that the primary objective of a dance educator is to nurture and cultivate students into well-rounded artists, preparing them for successful careers in dance. To achieve this, I strive to create a non-judgmental space where clarity and understanding are emphasized in teaching technique, composition, theory, history, and during rehearsals or performances.

Recognizing the importance of diverse dance training, I emphasize the need for students to be versatile artists who can confidently explore various dance forms and comprehend different techniques. Dance education encompasses more than just teaching correct technique; it also involves nurturing the spirit of each individual. To achieve this, I provide historical context, inspiration, and expose students to current trends in the field of dance. By integrating these aspects, I aim to deepen students' understanding of dance and foster their passion for the art form.

My teaching methodology is rooted in Inquiry-Based Learning and the Personal Model. By adopting a student-centered approach, I encourage active participation and engagement from students in their own learning process. As an educator, my role is to deliver information clearly and effectively. I provide guidance, support, and clarity to students as they navigate through the learning material. In the Personal Model, I take on the responsibility of leading the course by offering examples and demonstrations that show students how to access and comprehend information.

I find great satisfaction in the academic requirements of educating students within a higher education environment. When designing my curriculum, I strive to create an appealing, innovative, and challenging experience for students at all dance levels. This approach allows them to continuously learn and improve their technique, enhance their creativity, refine their performance abilities, and ignite their passion for dance. By modeling my own passion and excitement for dance, I aim to deepen students' knowledge of dance terminology, history, and its progression over time.

In summary, my teaching philosophy revolves around creating an open and supportive space that encourages personal growth, development, and creativity in dance. I am dedicated to equipping students with the necessary skills, knowledge, and inspiration to thrive in the dance industry. Through my student-centered approach and emphasis on versatility, I aim to empower students to become well-rounded artists who are equipped for success in their dance careers.
